OUTCASTING OVERTIME — FEATURED EPISODES
Some straight people — the aggrieved ones (we all know who they are) – seem to feel left out because there’s no “Straight Pride” celebration. OutCaster Alex explains why that is. Originally presented in 2019.
LGBTQ youth react to a statement by religious conservative justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito about overturning marriage equality, a Supreme Court action now more likely following the reversal of Roe v. Wade. Originally presented in 2020.
An interview with Maggie Keenan-Bolger, who wrote the play in collaboration with homeless LGBTQ youth.
July 24, 2014
On this episode of OutCasting, we follow up on the previous version of OutCasting, which featured an abridged reading of the play, "Queering History," written by Maggie Keenan-Bolger with homeless LGBTQ youth. The play illustrates the effects of the exclusion of LGBTQ history in our schools. In this episode, OutCaster Travis talks with Maggie about the play.
Coincidentially, three years ago, on July 14, 2011, the Fair, Accurate, Inclusive, and Respectful (FAIR) Act was signed into law in California, ending the exclusion of LGBTQ history in California schools. On an earlier edition of OutCasting, we spoke about the law with its sponsor, Cal. State Sen. Mark Leno.
This program was produced by OutCasting youth participants Lester, Nicole, Sydney, Travis, and Josh. OutCasting's executive producer is Marc Sophos.
